Meditative Morning Routine
With all this free time at home I have decided to play around with my morning routine and find something that truly resonates and gets me going for the day. In my experience, mindset is very important. If I wake up feeling sluggish or heavy it will impact the whole day. However, with this routine I have noticed that it kind of creates a fresh slate for me. It helps me start the day the way I want to start it.
For me developing a morning routine has been challenging in the past and I couldn't really pin point it until recently. Basically, I am a very visual person. If I think of something but don't write it down in my diary I will likely forget. So, I have had all these grounding and aligning tools in my back pocket for years and never knew how to remain consistent and remember to practice.. Now, I have found a way that works really well for me.
I have written down my routine in my diary in the little side column and every morning I go through it and check off the boxes. I use my phone to time each exercise to give me the structure that helps me thrive. I know how much time I will be there for so I can fully switch off and be present.
This routine has been working well, especially during this time in self isolation when sometimes the hardest part is just getting out of bed! But also it is important to tune into your intuition and if you feel like getting up and having a dance party first thing then that’s what you do. It's all about balance.
Alright, enough rambling. Lets get into this routine!
Meditation
I start off with a meditation for about 15-20 mins. I like to sit in stillness and focus on my breath, so really noticing the inhales and exhales. Slow and deep into and out of the belly. You can also use your senses as your point of focus. For example, noticing the sounds around you or the feeling of the body connected to the earth. You will find your preference through personal experience so play around with it and have fun!
Conscious Day Dreaming
Then, once my little harp timer has rung, I move onto my imagination exercise for around 5 minutes. What you do in this exercise is create a scenario in your mind that you'd like to manifest or something that just feels really good. For example, your dream relationship, career, house, body etc. Focus your attention on all the aspects that feel good to you and feel the sensations that arise in your body and you place yourself in this day dream.
Feel the Emotions
Next, I move onto feeling into emotions that I would like to bring through my day. I do this for three rounds (or as many rounds as I feel is necessary for me that day). Each round is simply 1 minute (now you cant tell me you dont have time for 1 minute!). Example emotions can include: joy, love, abundance, clarity ,grounded, calm, fun, appreciation. Choose an emotion and hold onto that for the whole minute. Embody the emotion and notice how you feel, look, sound, move, and see the world through that emotion.
Heart Space
From there I set the timer for another 2 minutes for tuning into my heart space. I place my hands over my heart centre and send my energy to this place. Taking my attention away from the mind space and channeling all my being into my heart.
Journaling
Finally, I will finish off with some journaling. Sometimes I will set a timer, other times I will write down a journal prompt and answer a question. Allow yourself to write whatever flows. If your stuck with what to write I have included some journal prompts in the free downloadable handout.
It usually takes me around 25-35 minutes and really brings me back to me. It reminds me why I am here and how much joy there is in the world and within me. The routine I have shared is just a guideline and I change it up all the time. But it is nice to have something to fall back on when you get stuck or feel overwhelmed. Listen to your body, and as always have fun!
